Notes: The online and physical components of this assignment could be completed independently.

Relevant Course Outcome
  • Students will be able to analyze orally and in writing major themes in Chaucer's texts and the significant historical and cultural influences on these works

Instructions
For this assignment, students visit a physical space devoted to the course and participate in activities, including on Facebook, as instructed.
  1. Go to Facebook.
  2. If you already have a Facebook account, skip to Step 9 below.
  3. If you do not already have an account, sign-up for a free account.
  4. For account authentication, you can use your FSU account or create/use a disposable email account (Gmail, Yahoo, etc.) – you don’t have to use your primary account to sign up for Facebook.
  5. You don’t have to enter your real birthday or age. I would, though, encourage you to enter an age over 18.
  6. You will receive an email confirmation from Facebook associated with your new account. Confirm that you’ve requested a new Facebook account.
  7. After you’ve confirmed your account, proceed through the set up process. I normally select the Skip this step option, located near the bottom-right of the set up screens (look carefully--this option is small!). Remember, you don’t have to add any information to your Facebook account specific to you – Facebook will do its best, though, to encourage you to do so.
  8. Once you’ve passed through Facebook’s set-up process, you’ll see your Facebook homepage. Most likely, you’ll see lots of stuff, including a list of people who you might want to add as friends. You can ignore all of this, too.
  9. Go to the Chaucer Pilgrimage Site page by clicking here.
  10. Like the page.
  11. Once you have liked it, hover over the Like button again.
  12. Click Get Notifications. This will let you know when there are new posts or someone has replied to your posts.
  13. NOTE: to view all the posts to page (not just those I post on the main page), scroll down to "Posts to Page" on the left-hand side and click on the arrow.

Requirements:
  • On a Pilgrimage Site week, you will do the following:
    • Go to the Pilgrimage Site.
    • There will be a new badge to pick up each week that is relevant to the week’s discussion/readings.
    • Pick up one of the badges.
    • Choose or create an object relevant to the week’s discussion/readings to leave at the site. (Funds will be provided for everyone to purchase either objects or the materials to make them.)
    • Take photos of your object, the badge, a selfie with the Site, or another object left at the Site.
    • Post to the Pilgrimage Site Facebook page with: responses to the experience, thoughts about the badges/objects, reasoning for your object, etc. Also include which badge you selected to take from the Site and a 1-2 sentence discussion of its significance to the week's readings.
    • Respond to one or more posts by other people (these may be classmates or others).
  • You are encouraged to post more than the requirements and, in particular, interact with other posts more than the requirements to receive the full value of this assignment.
